Instead of downplaying Ron Paul support as “spam,” which it isn’t, why not check him out for yourself?

    FZappa,

There is a big difference between “Ron Paul Support” and SPAM, when a single IP address posts 248 comments in an hour - Thats SPAM, no if, ands, or buts about it. Pure annoying unneeded spam.

  3. 3 FZappa

OK, I don’t approve of that, but take a look at Paul’s positions. To get a broad look at his views on a wide variety of topics, I’d suggest looking at this talk he did at Google HQ in July:

PS Malagent, what exactly makes Ron Paul “crazy”?

He’s been married to the same woman for 50 years, put himself through college and Duke med school working odd jobs, served 5 years in the Air Force, delivered over 4,000 babies in his medical career, fathered 5 children (3 of whom became doctors), served 10 terms in Congress, has taken excellent care of himself his entire life through exercise and good diet, is universally acknowledged by those who know him for being principled, good-natured, and humble, and has written several books on Austrian economics and foreign policy, one of which, “A Foreign Policy of Freedom,” is now in the top 200 books on Amazon.

Sounds like a lunatic to me!

  5. 5 malagent

    FZappa,
I did not say he was crazy, I just posted a poll to see if others think he is crazy. OK, so I did vote for the “Just a little” response.

The polls shall tell the story.

In my experience the Ron Paul supporters are the lunatics. Hanging from overpasses putting up spray painted sheets, spamming the hell out of people. The way I see it there are 37 supports of Ron Paul trying to make it look like there are millions. With every stunt they get even crazier. Sure there may be a few supports who have not lost the lease on their summer home in reality but they seem to be few and far between.

And if I ever catch the jerk putting Ron Paul bumper stickers on my car I’ll probably end up in jail.

  6. 6 FZappa

Oh, right — you didn’t say he was crazy, you just put a poll up on your site asking if he’s crazy, then voted “just a little.” My mistake.

I’ve tried to be nice but I don’t suffer fools and I’m sensing foolishness here. Learn more about Ron Paul before you post about him again, please.

malagent: Yea he is a little crazy.. in a good way. Most historical significant people are a little crazy to stick their neck out so far…
And not its definitely more than 37 people. I did an unofficial poll the other day with random people walking around. Half of which said they would seriously consider voting for him… Though one said she really likes him but doesn’t want to vote for a “spoiler candidate” WTF?.. yea people are stupid..

    FZappa: Australia?? WHat???

  9. 9 malagent

    MindSttalker,

I’m just fine with “A Little Crazy” - Most people who have ever made a significant difference in history were at least a little crazy. As one saying goes, “The people crazy enough to think they can change they world are the ones who do.”

I’ve probably mangled that a little but you get the idea. Like I said though, some of the RP supporters I’ve dealt with are a lot more than a little crazy!

Sure I’m making a little fun of the situation, but it’s a social experiment and I want to see where it goes. And to all of the RP guys who are not nuts: I mean no ill will, but there are some out there making it bad for ya.

  10. 10 FZappa

Austrian economics. He mentioned it on Leno the other night. Von Mises, Menger, Rothbard, etc. Look into it.

  11. 11 malagent

    FZappa,

Ludwig Von Mises is among my heroes. I have a couple of his books listed on my Books page as well. I am impressed with the “economic calculation problem” that he debated greatly in the 20’s & 30’s. To me he ranks right up there with Walter Williams.

  12. 12 L.Step

I agree with FZappa… to support Ron Paul one must be willing to be called a “Nazi” a “loony” an “anti-semite”, “crazy”. etc. Well now, just what’s with these anti-Paul people? Why are they so furious? From such anger arises dictatorships. It seems that these people want to continue to be told what to say and to do. They wish only to rest securely in a political prison of their own making. Hitler knew this, Stalin knew this, and every dictator since the beginning of history knew this. For us, preparing for our dictatorship, we are expected not to question such things as the mindless war in that Middle East religious cesspool, nor doubt the value of our monopoly money, nor disbelieve a servile media which will tell whatever “truth” they are told to tell. Hegel noted that the only thing we learned from history is that we learned nothing from history. Let’s hope that this time around we might learn something — but if not, then Hegel had a description of what history has been, a “slaughter bench”. It might continue to be such.

  13. 13 TexasFred

A little crazy?? Loony toons is more like it… And yeah, I am a Texas Conservative, Paul isn’t…

  14. 14 PK

    malagent,

If Von Mises is one of your heroes then I’m suprised you’re not already a Paul supporter, if not at least more open minded towards him. I agree with previous posts about you needing to do your homework on the man and his message.

  15. 15 Chris D

It’s telling when people are so passionate about a politician, particularly one who has served 10 terms in Congress. Dr. Paul presents a platform that is clear, traditional, and unique from other candidates. If you consider him crazy, then perhaps you should consider the great men who founded this nation to be similarly as crazy. The logic that if A likes B, then B = A is flawed. It is wrong to think that Dr. Paul is as radical or conspiracy loving as some of his supporters. He simply attracts the disenchanted, which is quite refreshing.

I wasn’t aware that “spam” could raise $2.5 million in personal donations in a month (given the $2,300 cap), have over 1,000 meetup groups, and win staw polls. If you are upset by a subgroup of Dr. Paul’s supporters who are aggressive, then I suggest you simply ignore them. Attention seekers can not be dealt with by baiting them with a video and polls. All you will have accomplished here is attracting more radical individuals. Otherwise, thanks for the polls.

  16. 16 kl

He is pretty crazy to risk his life and go against the biggests forces for the sake of most of us.

  17. 17 B.Young

I guess you would have to be a little crazy to follow the constitution.
Just like our founding fathers had to be to set up a form of government that restricted the power that they had at the time.

Just like George Washington was crazy for not allowing the military to turn him into a dictator.

Our founders are like throwing a group of anarchist into a room and telling them to design a government.
That is what gave We the people the right to tell the government to go “F***” itself when it tries to run our lives.

We need a bit more of people telling the government to go F itself now days

  18. 18 Nick

Ron Paul is the farthest thing from crazy.

It’s just that we’ve come to a point where right is wrong and wrong is right. Some people can’t handle the fact that Ron Paul is so right. Maybe too right. But it’s what we need.

Can anyone seriously say there’s a better candidate than Ron Paul? Not from what I can see. And until I found out that Ron Paul was running for president, I was thinking heavily about getting the hell out of this country. Now it actually looks like we have hope.

    L.Step:
It’s practically in my job description to be called a Nazi and a fascist, I’m used to now - I still have not figured out exactly what one meant when they called me a “Neocon Turd Monkey” - As for being “Angry” or “furious” I am at many things, particular the SPAM I get. about 90% of the spam I deal with on my sites, Youtube videos or myspace is RP related. I post about Rush Limbaugh and I get a bunch of “Ron Paul 2008″ comments, totally unrelated to the post.

Ron Paul is getting real support, he came from 1-2 % to 6-7% now and most of his following are young people that use cellphone not linephone, and they arent included in polls. So you should do a little research on Him you will probably like what you will discouver.

Unfortunately Ron Paul has not won the elections yet and for the forces democracy exists until their interests are not hurt. Quite a few presidents and politicians have died for not wanting a central bank, but I hope you are right.

Just because there is “some” spamming going on, probably by the other camps to discredit Mr. Paul that doesn’t reflect the massive grass roots support he has. He has a message that will save America. And this means alot of people that still want a free nation will be very passionate about his campaign. It’s been a very, very long time since the citizens of this country have seen a statesmen and not a career politician trying to fix the problems in this country and it’s going to bring out the hard core patriotism in alot of people. This is called the Ron Paul Revolution, but in reality it’s the American people’s Revolution.

  26. 26 malagent

kl, I allowed your link to America Freedom to fascism, but only on the conition that I am posting the following links:

    http://docs.law.gwu.edu/facweb/jsiegel/Personal/taxes/IncomeTax.htm
    http://www.publiceye.org/conspire/flaherty/Federal_Reserve.html
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/America:_Freedom_to_Fascism

The fact is that one can easily agree with the premise of the movie & be drawn to believe it in it’s entirety based on emotion. All to often people omit any real research on the topic or for that matter simple fact checking. I certainly hope this movie is not the basis for much of Ron Paul’s supports as it would lead me to lean more towards the supporters being crazy. I can appreciate the argument of abolishing the IRS & the Fed although it’s not my position and it entails a much greater effort than simply saying “OK, they’re gone now.” The results of such would be far beyond just catastrophic.

Additionally the “non existent” tax law which is the central premise for the movie is easily located by anyone willing to do so:

    Drighten,

    “spamming going on”
is a drastic understatement of the situation.

“probably by the other camps to discredit Mr. Paul that doesn’t reflect the massive grass roots support he has.”
Is there any evidence to support this? There is evidence to showing “shilling” in conversations that have nothing to do with politics. I’m not even taking the myspace & email spam into consideration here.
Grassroots support has always been a big part of politics, one man holding 5 signs is a bit different than one person signing up for 5 user id’s to look like five people. If that is people being “very passionate about his campaign” or “hard core patriotism” then I think people should reevaluate the damage to their own cause.

    re Chris D says:
“If you are upset by a subgroup of Dr. Paul’s supporters who are aggressive, then I suggest you simply ignore them. Attention seekers can not be dealt with by baiting them with a video and polls.”

I would love to “simply ignore” them, the dilemma then is how do I allow legitimate discussion of RP without the massive resource burden of the associated spam in comments, polls, ratings etc. if I simply ban occurrences of “Ron Paul” as I do all other sources of spam such as drug names, there would be no discussion & then the lunatic supports would scream that I’m “censoring” them to hide support for Ron Paul. The way I see it the only thing that surpasses cries of Ron Paul censorship is Ron Paul SPAM. It seems likely that those two things might be at least a little more than coincidental.

    re Chris D says:
“All you will have accomplished here is attracting more radical individuals. Otherwise, thanks for the polls.”

It’s actually been the opposite. Most of the response has been positive, I’ve talked with some very passionate & informed people regarding some issues & their positions. My video & initial parlance were intended to bait the more legitimate of the RP supporters into discussion while also seeking to modify the adverse behavior of the others, at least in relation to this website. It’s also part of of an experiment, which I will explain later.

  29. 29 Al

Ron Paul is clearly a rarity in the world of politics. Instead of ridiculing his supporters, many of which have never been involved politically before, maybe you should consider the fact that he has struck a cord in many Americans (I’m guessing there’s a lot more than 37…) who would like to see our country put back on track and break away from the NeoCon Bureaucracy that has been in power for a good many years. Ron Paul has an incredible message about what makes this country great and his supporters although at times can be a bit misguided have good intentions. Many of them are simply excited to see a candidate working in the best interest of the people. Ron Paul hands down has the most passionate supporters of any candidate currently running and has generated a considerable amount of money during his campaign without having to resort to lobbyists, borrowing millions from his own pocket, or making promises to special interest groups overseas. He’s a true grass roots candidate and no matter what the outcome his campaign, he has awaken many Americans to take another look at what liberties have been sacrificed (Habeas Corpus, Patriot Act), where the financing for this war has and will continue to come from (China), and what the founders of this nation had intended for our future. Hopefully, by putting this poll together on the web you will come to learn more about what Ron Paul brings to the table and will learn to be a little more understanding of his supporters.
Sorry I’m not trying to spam or anything…
I simply posted the first time on the wrong page…

    Al,

re “Ron Paul is clearly a rarity in the world of politics.”

    He sure is.

re “Instead of ridiculing his supporters, many of which have never been involved politically before, maybe you should consider the fact that he has struck a cord in many Americans (I’m guessing there’s a lot more than 37…)”

I’m ridiculing the loony ones, the others are fine. Judging by the response to these polls There are about 100 supporters. Considering that Ron Paul does “so well” in online polls and this post has been listed on several fairly high traffic Ron Paul sites - he just does not seem to be doing real well here.

re “his supporters although at times can be a bit misguided have good intentions.”

I sure do hope none of them fall off the overpasses when hanging the painted sheets.

re “Sorry I’m not trying to spam or anything…
I simply posted the first time on the wrong page…”

Spam? No, you’re fine. Your posting relevant commentary on a page that is actually about Ron Paul, that’s fine - I encourage discussion, commentary etc., now if you were to have posted this on a post about the iPhone then that would be spam. Of if you were to post like “Dr No” above that would be spam as well.

  31. 31 FT

Who cares if he wins, he is brining forward several issues that need to be addressed. Personaly I like some of his views. I think he is bringing other less recognized candidates like Huckabee closer to the mainstreem and taking away from the excessive views of Gulianni McCain and late starter Thompson.

I guess more importantly his campaign is mobilizing voters who otherwise would sit at home playing xbox enjoying their vices (smoking pot / drinking their brains away).

Overall, as you say, these supporters may be doing a great disservice to this campaign by annoying good individuals who will become more intrenched in their support for other candidates. I too have had a barage of postings on myspace and facebook….it is annoying!!

I just hope that they do not detract from this oppertunity to bring up a quality candidate on the side of conservitives, ultimatly leading to a continuation of curruption in our govt. hope you agree!!

Paul supporters, this message goes out to you, ((be civilized))!!! Insanity on behalf of supporters only makes one think that the views of Paul are crazy!!

“A team playing against itself cannot win”

I used to (past tense) subscribe to the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER. A few days back there was a Ron Paul rally to mark Veteran’s Day. There were estimates of from 3 to 5,000 people gathered for the rally at Independence Hall. The INQUIRER made little reference to the rally. Sad. That’s why I use the internet (and I’m definitely not a “young person”) to find out the news. I like this new generation.

  34. 34 malagent

    L.Step,

It’s one of the pitfalls of a free press that they don’t have to cover a story. But if you made your decision to not subscribe based on them not covering what you feel is newsworthy then you’re doing your part to make the system work. The unfortunate part is that too few do the same.

I’ve worked at a newspaper and my father owned one for many years, I think if you want to sell papers you cover what sells - not what fits your political or world view. But I’m not in that business anymore. To damn hard to get the advertisers to pay!

  35. 35 MAVeagle

Ron Paul has a good platform but it’s unrealistic. He has a lot of skeleton’s in his closet too because of all the radical remarks he’s made in the past. As the election draws closer they’ll be his downfall. He waited all these years to run again for president and changed his party for a reason. He’s exploiting the fact that people are tired of Bush to help him but it still won’t work. I love America and I do not support this man.
