Democrats Fight To Keep America’s Borders Unprotected

Each year, an estimated 200,000 to 400,000 illegal immigrants try to make the 15 to 30 mile hike through the wilderness to reach cities in the United States. “That works out to a city the size of Baton Rouge, La., living in the park without a sewage system, without garbage collection, without a grid of dedicated roads or sidewalks. They move where they want in four-wheel-drive cars, ATVs, motorcycles, bicycles and their own feet.”[1]

In March of 2006 the Pew Hispanic Center (PHC) estimated the undocumented population in the U.S. ranged from 11.5 to 12 million individuals[2], a number supported by the US Government Accountability Office (GAO)[3]. Using data from March of 2004, PHC estimated that 57% originate from .[4]

Most illegal immigrants live in families where the adults are undocumented, but the children are U.S.-born. An estimated 13.9 million people - including 4.7 million children - live in families in which the head of household or the spouse is an illegal immigrant.[5]

Illegal immigrants continue to out pace the number of legal immigrants - a trend that’s held steady since the 1990s. While the undocumented continue to concentrate in places with existing large communities of Hispanics, they are also increasingly settling throughout the rest of the country.[5]

Today’s from AmericanResolve explains how politicians are once again fighting to keep our borders open and unprotected. In this case the politicians are Democrats, although that’s not always the case. Protecting the environment is the excuse used in this round.

You have to wonder who he serves.

The Department is waiving more than two dozen environmental and other laws to speed up fence construction on the southern border. Now 14 members of the current democratic majority, including Committee Chairman , are joining environmental groups and asking the Supreme Court to force to obey the laws.

The fence to nowhere is costing us billions of dollars and has been proven to be an unsuccessful deterrent. Billions of dollars. Billions to build a fence that will do more harm than good. Billions.

Look up the “North American Union”. That’s why NO PARTY is going to strengthen borders. Wake up SHEEPLE.

    Your solution?

Agreed. It is too much at a time when we cannot afford it. It would probably take at least several decades to build a defensible border and many trillions of dollars. I bet along the 6000 miles of land borders we have, there would still be many ways to get into the country as well. I’m not 100% opposed to the idea, but it is unfeasible.

poop121 - You’re kidding, right? The border fence would take only several years, and the cost is NOT in the trillions (however it is expensive). But you and I will pay MORE if there is not border fence. Every illegal that has a kid on U.S. soil is immediately eligible for about $10,000 a year in welfare called Aid for Families with Dependent Children. And that’s just the first kid per family - the benefits go up for additional kids. Multiply that by the number of illegals having kids here.

There is a better way to do it than with a fence. Reagan gave a lot of amnesty and Bush has done nothing. Don’t blame one party.

Then add in $8,000 a year for each child we allow in our public schools. Then add in all these quality of life factors - waits at ERs for treatment, overcrowded communities, declining wages for Americans and LEGAL immigrants, traffic conjestion, crime by gangs and drug cartels, etc. The fence is just 1 part in securing our country (but necessary), others include workplace verification (fed eVerify program) and local police enforcing immigration laws and ending sanctuary policies.

I am not even suggesting a fence is the ONLY solution. It is part of a much wider sphere of enforcement. The fence is still essential and must go hand in hand with strict internal enforcement and interdiction efforts. Also, no more damn anchor babies born to illegals. Re-interpret the 14th amendment NOW.

The first thing that needs to be done is building a fence. Then we can start doing other things to combat illegal immigration.

More self deportation measures. Crippling fines for people who hire illegal works. Denial of medical care and food stamps to anyone who isn’t a citizen of the untied states. Denial of federal funding of any city or state that declares themselves or acts like a sanctuary city. Jail time for politicians or authority figures who refuse to enforce the laws. No more anchor babies. At least 1 parent of the child must be a citizen for the child to get citizenship automatically.

Lasers on the border. Common guys, laser fences, think about it. They’ll be so stupid enough to cross it they’ll get sliced and diced and there wont be anyway around it. It’ll be great!

Democrats need the Third World. Without the continued influx of ‘handout, oppressed, alienated’ trophy constituents, the Dems would lose their chance for continued survival. Sympathy props keep them in power.

Immigration is an important part of this country. Yes there is a lot of people that cross the border with bad intentions (contraband, criminals) but that only makes up a very small part of all the immigrants that cross. I live about 10 blocks from Mexico. Most of the people that cross come here to work and sent money to their financially deprived life. They also help the economy. If they live in the U.S. they have to buy everything from the same store that you purchase your groceries. They also pay the sales taxes that you pay. If they become residents they have to pay taxes but don’t get the luxury of voting in elections. If employers hire immigrants they don’t provide them with health insurance and pay them less than a citizen. That means more money for the business. And would you want to work from six am to 8 pm in construction, or your would your child want that job. By international law wherever your child is born he or she will become a citizen of the sovereignty. Some of them do become criminals but most of them follow their parents example and become a hard working person. The only reason that the people emigrated is to have a better life for them and their family. If you lost your job will you move (immigrate) to another place to find stability for you and your loved one. Their are people just like you and me, and deserve the respect that you are given.

    George,

Helping the economy is debatable. A legal immigrant that works does contribute to the economy just as any other citizen or permanent resident would. An illegal immigrant, however, does not pay pay taxes while they use up social services and resources paid for by the taxes of legal residents.

The issue is more than a fence - As a nation we need to enforce the rules and laws we already have. We need to punish businesses that hire illegal immigrants. But we also need to have a border and protect it.

I have no issue with legal immigrants, I also have no issue with Mexicans. I do have an issue with illegal immigrants. Considering we share a large border with Mexico a large majority of the immigrants (legal and illegal) come from Mexico.

Re: “would you want to work from six am to 8 pm in construction, or your would your child want that job”

Rather interesting that you should bring that up. First, what’s wrong with construction work? I’ve done it - I’ve built houses and I’ve built roads. At one point I lost a rather good paying job ($18/hour at the time) doing road construction when the company brought in a bunch of illegals who could not speak English. To the best of my knowledge they were paid about $4/hour with no provisions for overtime or other benefits.

From your question I gather that you 1) Think that Americans are somehow better as human beings than immigrants and 2) Construction work is too good for Americans and somehow “bad” and 3) as such we should not do or even want to do that kind of work just let the inferior Mexicans do it.

Whatever one’s job may be there is no shame in doing it to support oneself and ones family. There is a wide gamut of skills and qualifications among the legal immigrants and citizens of the US - ranging from unskilled suitable for general labor to highly technical skilled workers. To imply that no American is willing or capable of doing unskilled and or hard labor is ignorant. Are we as Americans simply born with College degrees and therefore unsuitable to get are hands dirty to support are family?

Re: “If you lost your job will you move (immigrate) to another place to find stability”

If I ever decided (by necessity or otherwise) to move to another country I would do so within their rules. and that is all I ask of those that choose to come to the US.

Re: “The only reason that the people emigrated is to have a better life for them and their family”

The same can be said as motivation for robbing a bank or murdering a family member for insurance money - Of course that does not justify the actions. The business owners who hire illegals just “want a better life” as well I’m sure.

Re: “Their are people just like you and me, and deserve the respect that you are given”

Quite correct. They are people - no different than you or I. Which is precisely why you and others should not imply that they are inferior and only suited for manual labor that Americans “just wont do”. And being a person myself along with the other 300 million or so Americans, I deserve for people in my country to follow the rule of law.
