In a future version of California, firearm control is taken to a new level by the nanny state government. Although the homeowner owns a gun, he is helpless to protect himself and protect his family from an armed intruder.

The scary thing about this video is that I have friends who think this system would be a great idea.

So, what do you do in a real home invasion to ensure the best chance of your family’s safety? Well, this is a good place to start.

A note on the phones: Any cell phone will do, it need not have active service. So long as it is functional and can make a reliable connection. This has several advantages over active cell phone accounts, cost, availability and redundancy. you can check with friends, family, or online at Craigslist/FreeCycle to find cheap or free working phones.

If you have one or two cell phones you can keep them in more than one place. The bedroom is an obvious choice, as you will be sleeping there. Other rooms that good candidates are bathrooms and family rooms.
