Update: As I’ve predicted the Officers involved in this incident have been cleared and are returning to duty. Take a poll here.
I’ve posted a few videos on YouTube concerning the Andrew Meyer Taser incident. Now I knew I would not be popular with my position on the incident. After all the majority of the YouTube users are young liberals, many of which love a good conspiracy theory. At least that’s been my experience. However, I was astonished at the response I have received. In addition to the obligatory “your a fascist”, “troll alert”, “you’re part of Skull & Bones” and “you’re a Bush lover” comments, I’ve also received a few dozen messages threatening my life. Now of course I don’t take these seriously, mainly due to the all caps and mangling of the English language.
Anyway, I’ll get to the point. Amongst all of the controversy, insults and now death threats I have had some productive conversations with a rare few.
Some of whom have requested more information or explanations of the information I have presented. Rather then continue to try and provide a condensed version that fits withing the 500 character limit of the YouTube comments that also wont allow URLs to be posted, I have decided to simply post what I can here. With any luck someone will find it useful.
Additional information relevant to a few viewers and a few people participating in the discussion (comments)… Continue reading ‘Critical thinking and the Andrew Meyer Taser Incident’

It might be a bomb!,

paranoia,

You remember the Boston Mooninite Bomb Scare? Seems like a lot of people do as the pictures show. I’m sure that Everyone in Boston is not really Stupid, not withstanding the mass media hysteria anyway. If you don’t recall the details, see how it all started here.
Photo taken in New York, New York (map) on February 3, 2007 with a RIM BlackBerry 8100 Series in NYC.

The Toaster,
originally uploaded by dcschaub.
Teresa poses with her USB Toaster! It toast 4 slices in only 30 minutes. Now she will never be with out toast.
I guess I was mistaken when I thought the most ridiculous marketing idea was the pet rock or the hybrid car. Oh yes, never be without toast again! Carry a loaf of bread and this USB powered toaster in you laptop bag and you to can be eating toast while doing import work or surfing porn sites.

Silver Dollar Hail,
originally uploaded by malagent.
A comparison photo of a hail stone from Wichita, Kansas in April 2006.
In stunning examples of stupidity, ignorance, and selfishness people driving on Kellogg (US 54) make sudden stops under overpasses as the unexpected storm started to drop hail. The blocking of traffic on a 60MPH interstate in low visibility caused several accidents.
With four lanes of traffic being blocked in front of me my frustration grew exponentially, not because of the damage to my car, just because I wanted to get around the idiots and continue on my way. Unlike the other drivers I had things to do, most of which were more important than a few dents on my car.
If you live in Wichita or anywhere in Kansas you have no right to be surprised when there is hail, a thunderstorm, a tornado or any sudden change in the weather. And you definitely have no right to stop in the middle of a freaking interstate blocking everyone else and causing serious accidents because you don’t want your most likely heavily insured Lexus or crappy Nissan Altima damaged by the storm.
One of the many reasons I have never liked living in Wichita, or Kansas for that matter - The weather is, at best wild and unpredictable and at worst, who knows. When lousy, dangerous and mostly unpredictable weather is coupled with ignorant and inconsiderate people you have a truly bad situation.

$Cat,

Another picture I found on Flickr. I would say I do not have the time do something like this. Truth be told though it is patience I lack. Time I could muster up if I needed to.
Money as art.

Stewie and Meg,
originally uploaded by malagent.
“Oh yes, you can be the dumpy teenage girl who cries backstage because no one finds her attractive.”
I am not a photographer, but I play one on Flickr. For a mere fifty cents I tried to purchase this bobble-head miniature Stewie from a vending machine. It ended up being one dollar because I got Meg on the first try. I suppose that’s OK because now the cynical baby bent on world domination has someone other than me to ridicule and torment.

There had been no plans to replace my 1.5GHz G4 Mac Mini until I was presented with a deal that was indeed too good to pass up. A friend wanted an old Sawtooth 45oMHz G4 and a 600MHz G3 iMac so he offered to trade his 1.5 GHz Core Solo Mac Mini and a 1.83GHz Core Duo processor for the two unused Macs from collection. How could a Mac Addict turn down such a offer? Of course I couldn’t turn it down, after all I have many iMacs but only two Mini’s. Between the two Macs I had a total of $60 invested, which means I get a Dual Core Mini for $60! This would also allow me to explore the newly created world of Intel based Macs or MacIntels. If all that was not enough it would also allow me to satify my warranty inhibited desire to open a Mac Mini and explore the mysterious inner workings of the tiny box.
And so began the process…
First, off with the cover - Although this remains very low on my Preferred Activities list, it really is not such an ordeal - if you know what you’re doing. Always know what you’re doing before you break something. Especially if that something happens to be a Mac. I’m not going into detail about the procedure as it is readily available around the internet. If you just have to see it look here. (HT: SavyGeek)
